GAINDA SINGH - Jul 3, 2009

Presenting Gainda Singh...the newest member of the Goel family. He was "adopted" from the Cerritos PETCO on Jun 16. He's a Robo Hamster. Gainda means rhinoceros in Hindi/Pujabi...a fitting name for a such a mightly creature.

Being the uncooperative little rascal that he is, these pictures were taken with some difficulty. Because of his small size, he would conceal himself in the tube that connects the first floor to his bachelor pad above or in the connector between the cage and wheel. Hopefully he'll become accustomed to us and start playing with his older sisters Piya and Riya.

Some facts about Robo Hamsters (plagarized directly from the Wikipedia article):

• "They live, on average, to three and a half years of age - the longest of any domestic hamster."
• "Roborovski hamsters are surprisingly not herbivores. They will eat vegetables, fruit, and plants, but they will eat meat and insects. Therefore, they are omnivores." (However, based on his family values, Gainda will only receive vegetarian diet).
• "...they grow to be on average 4.5 cm long—roughly the length of an adult human thumb...."
• "Roborovskis are the smallest and fastest of all hamsters."

Gainda was "adopted" because his predecessor, Kala (an albino Campbell's Russian dwarf hamster) tragically passed away in Sep 2005 when our home was destroyed by fire. R.I.P. Kala.
