Our beloved Gainda Singh passed away. Below is a eulogy written by Raj Goel on May 15, 2010.
Our loving Gainda Singh was very unique, who was adopted into the family in June 2009. As soon as he entered the house, we started enjoying his company and he became a part of the family. All he needed was some tender loving care. Rishi was very close to Gainda Singh. Unselfishly, Rishi took care of his needs. It was a sad morning on May 13, 2010 when we found out that he is no more with us. A few days prior to that date, we had noticed that he was not as agile as he used to be. It appeared as if he was suffering from some hidden illness that we were not aware of.
Rishi always pampered him by religiously cleaning his unit every week. He took care of his personal needs for food and water. He played with him and in turn he played games with him such as hide and seek. When ever, Rishi took him outside, he wanted to free himself and run away. It was always a good sight when you saw Rishi chasing Gainda.
One time he hid himself in our garage and it took two days for Rishi to find him. Rishi knew his weakness for food and water just like any human being. Piya and Riya were equally fond of Gainda Singh. He never made any loud noises and never bit them.
He was great, who never bothered anyone. He always behaved well, whenever we had company. At times we wondered whether he was lonely. We were scared to get him married because it would be chore to take care of his family. He kept himself quite occupied. He never messed around with computers, TV, remote controls, etc. Most of his activities were planned around his living quarters. He had a merry go round, water oasis, food depot and plenty of room to run around.
Gainda Singh loved to show off his mastery over the merry go round. At times he will spin it so hard and hold it tight to spin along with it over the top. Gainda Singh liked going to his upstairs balcony. He could see the open sky and stars from there. These are just memories now.
Loss of Gainda Singh is not easy to forget, especially when your life revolved around him so much. To honor him appropriately, he was buried in the family plot right close to the rose garden. We wish him all the best in his next life and may his soul rest in peace!
